Superyacht Charter Ibiza: Everything You Need To Know

·10 min read·Aurelius Society

Direct answer

A superyacht charter in Ibiza means a vessel of 30 metres (100ft) or more, full live-aboard crew of 5–10, dedicated chef and tender, multi-night itineraries across the Balearics, and weekly rates from €60,000 to €350,000+ depending on hull. The category is defined by service depth — not just hull size.

The term "superyacht" is loosely defined. In practical terms, in Ibiza, it means a yacht of 30 metres or more, with a live-aboard crew, multiple guest cabins, on-board chef, and a tender for shoreside transfers. Below that threshold you are in the sport-flybridge category — premium, but different.

Hull size and layout

A 30–40m superyacht typically offers a master suite, three to five guest cabins, a beach club at the stern, a main saloon forward, a top-deck sun pad and Jacuzzi. Larger superyachts (50m+) add elevator access, helipads in some cases, and a second tender bay.

Our flagship, Friendship, is a 35m (115ft) Benetti — the canonical entry point to the superyacht category, with capacity for ten guests across five cabins.

Crew structure

  • Captain — fully licensed (typically RYA Master 200 / 3000)
  • First officer (mate)
  • Chief engineer
  • One to two stewardesses
  • Head chef (often hotel-trained, Michelin-listed background)
  • Second chef on 40m+ vessels
  • One to two deckhands
  • Dedicated tender driver on 35m+ vessels

The crew is included in the charter rate. A 5–15% gratuity at the end of the charter is customary, distributed by the captain.

Pricing bands (peak season)

  • 30–35m: €60,000 – €110,000 / week + APA
  • 35–45m: €120,000 – €240,000 / week + APA
  • 45–60m: €250,000 – €450,000 / week + APA
  • 60m+: €450,000 – €1,200,000 / week + APA

The APA (Advance Provisioning Allowance) sits at 25–35% of the charter fee and covers fuel, marina, food, drink and tips. See the full cost breakdown.

Routes from Ibiza

Day cruises

Formentera circuits, Es Vedrà sunsets, north-coast caves. Most superyachts run day cruises slowly — the operational cost of fast cruising on a 40m hull is significant.

Multi-day passages

Ibiza → Mallorca cliffs (Cala Pi, Es Trenc) → Cabrera archipelago → Menorca south coast → return. A classic week-long Balearic loop covers ~400 nautical miles.

Extended itineraries

Ibiza → Costa Brava (Cadaqués, Palamós) → Barcelona → Costa Daurada (Sitges, Tarragona). Or south to Formentera → Costa Blanca → Cartagena. Most owners allow 10–14 day cruising windows.

Regulations and registration

Superyachts chartering in Spanish waters must hold a Spanish commercial charter licence or operate under an equivalent EU flag with charter authorisation. Non-EU residents may charter legally; specific VAT rules apply.

Posidonia anchoring restrictions apply across the Balearic Islands. Captains navigate the legal anchorage maps automatically; fines for incorrect anchoring fall on the operator, not the charter party.

On-board experiences

  • Cuisine — tasting menus, wine pairings, regional Spanish or international as preferred.
  • Water toys — seabobs, jet skis, eFoils, paddleboards, towables, dive gear, wakeboard.
  • Spa — on-board massage, facial, mobile spa service through concierge.
  • Entertainment — DJ on request, on-board cinema (most 35m+), karaoke, projector setups.

Privacy

Superyacht charters operate at a level of privacy hotels cannot match. Crew are contractually bound to discretion. Anchorages can be selected for distance from paparazzi lines (the channels and lookout points used by long-lens photographers in Ibiza are well-known to captains). Berth in private marinas — Marina Ibiza, Marina Botafoch, Sant Antoni — only.

Booking timeline

For July and August, 3–6 months in advance is typical. For top- tier hulls (40m+), six to twelve months. Shoulder season (May, September, early October) is far more flexible — and offers superior weather for cruising.
