Ibiza · South-west coast
Es Vedrà
The 400-metre limestone rock that defines the south-west horizon. The single most-photographed sundown in the Pitiusas.
s Vedrà rises four hundred metres straight out of the sea two miles off the south-west coast of Ibiza. From the deck of an anchored yacht it is the single most arresting view the island offers — particularly in the half-hour either side of sundown, when the south-west light catches the limestone and the colour turns from white to bronze to deep amber.
The right anchorage is in the lee of the rock, on the north-east side, where the swell drops and the boat sits steady through dinner. The chartered day-boats have returned to Marina Ibiza by 19:00; by 19:30 the cove is, briefly, yours.

Questions we hear
Es Vedrà — answered.
How long does it take to reach Es Vedrà from Marina Ibiza?+
About 45 minutes at cruising speed (16–18 knots) on a 25–35m yacht; 30 minutes on a faster sport boat. The route runs south past Cala Jondal and Es Cubells, then west around Cap d'es Falcó.
Can we anchor overnight at Es Vedrà?+
Yes — the lee of the rock is a sheltered overnight anchorage in normal westerly weather. We avoid it when easterlies are forecast as the bay becomes choppy. The captain confirms the night anchorage at 19:00 based on the forecast.
Is Es Vedrà a protected area?+
Yes. Es Vedrà and the surrounding waters are part of a marine reserve. Modern Posidonia-friendly anchors are required; we use only block-rated yachts that comply. Diving requires permits the office handles.
What's the best time of day to be there?+
Sundown — 19:30 to 21:00 between May and September. Mornings are quieter and the light is softer, but the south-west glow at the end of the day is what people come for.
